The sex of a baby is determined by the father’s sperm, as his sperm comes in two chromosome varieties (X and Y), while the female ova (or eggs) are only X. If a Y sperm fuses with an X ova, then the result will be a male (XY), while a X sperm and a ova make a female (XX).
The only true way to guarantee that you conceive either a girl or boy is by selecting the genetic make up of the sperm through artificial insemination. Many couples choose this method in order to balance out their family or to avoid congenital diseases, especially if it is specific to one one sex ( for example, haemophilia)
Using The Shettles Method for Trying to Conceive a Girl
In the early 1960′s, an American gynaecologist, Dr Landrum B Shettles (1910-2003) published a ground breaking report on the characteristics of sperm.
He concluded that the Y sperm are lighter in weight, swim faster, but also die sooner; while the X sperm, are much heavier, swim slower, but they actually live longer. ( quite like the Hare and the turtle story!)
The Shettles system may increase your odds of choosing the sex of your child from 50% to 75%. It’s NOT a guarantee to success, but it is something that you can consider to help with conception.
To increase your chances of conceiving a GIRL:-
- Ten minutes prior to sex, use a vaginal douche consisting of 20ml of white vinegar in 500ml of cooled boiling water.
- Make sure you have sex regularly before ovulation until ten days before you ovulate.
- NO sex from the first day before ovulation, until ten days after ovulation.
- Have your partner ejaculate just inside your vagina, and not deep inside.
- Have your partner withdraw immediately after he has ejaculated.
- It’s also better if the woman doesn’t have an orgasm.
This method for trying to conceive a girl may not be full proof and it does require a bit of pre-preparation prior to sex, but if you are desperately trying to conceive a girl, then this may be one of many options.
Trying to conceive a girl may take some time, and if that doesn’t work, then the other alternative is through artificial insemination.
